The Arab countries are located at the intersection of three continents—Europe, Asia, and Africa—and serve as a crucial hub for global transportation, holding a significant strategic position. Additionally, Arab countries possess abundant oil, natural gas, and other resources. Therefore, the economic development of the Arab region is closely intertwined with the global economic landscape. Universities, with high Arabic proficiency and a solid foundation in professional knowledge and practical skills. To truly achieve the training objectives and enable students to adapt quickly to the workplace after graduation, adapting to the new realities of China's reform and opening-up and global economic development, the textbook "Arabic for International Trade and Economics" was specifically compiled.
"Arabic for International Trade and Economics" is divided into sixteen chapters, each consisting of seven parts: text, vocabulary, notes, discussion, translation, reading, and terminology. These seven components are closely interconnected, forming a cohesive unit, yet each part remains relatively independent and self-contained. The vocabulary, notes, and discussion sections are closely aligned with the text, essential for comprehending and absorbing the content. The translation, reading, and terminology sections are related to the text while also offering new extensions. The text primarily includes selected materials on economic and trade theories, economic reports, and commentaries. The translation and reading sections cover an overview of the economic and trade landscape in Arab countries, economic knowledge, China-Arab economic exchanges, and some economic application documents. The terminology section expands and supplements relevant terms introduced in each chapter, aiming to cover the most basic and commonly used professional terms in economic and trade fields across the sixteen chapters.
When using "Arabic for International Trade and Economics" in teaching, instructors can flexibly adapt to their specific circumstances. Generally, one chapter can be completed in 6–8 teaching hours, but some chapters contain more content and can be treated as units with appropriately increased teaching hours. To enhance training volume while maintaining the completeness of the content, some chapters have more extensive translation and reading sections. Instructors may assign students to translate only a portion, read only a portion, or divide the reading material between class and homework. Some sections can also be used as freely accessible reference materials.
"Arabic for International Trade and Economics" is designed as a senior elective course textbook for undergraduate students of the Arabic Department at Beijing Foreign Studies University. It is also suitable for Arabic professionals and self-learners with a certain level of foreign language proficiency.
