Features: This book is the main part of the fourth volume of the "East" series university-level Russian language textbook jointly compiled by Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Pushkin Russian Language Institute in Moscow. It is intended for the fourth semester. The teaching tasks for this stage are: 1. To teach commonly used vocabulary and sentence patterns within the scope of daily life, general national conditions, society, and culture, and to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This volume focuses on developing monologue skills while also improving dialogue skills; 2. To continue teaching basic grammar points and lay a solid foundation in grammar; 3. To closely integrate speech training with grammar instruction to improve pronunciation and intonation, and to strengthen reading aloud exercises; 4. To gradually cultivate independent work skills through reading texts, consulting dictionaries, and completing various assignments. The fourth volume serves as a bridge between the basic and advanced stages. In terms of content, topics related to national conditions, society, and culture are increased. In addition to thematic texts, four literary texts are included to lay the foundation for learning literary language and to develop skills in retelling and narrating. The fourth volume consists of 12 lessons, covering approximately 1,450 new words (excluding new words in reading texts) and 28 grammar points. The structure of the textbook is as follows:
I. Vocabulary and Speech Training
1. Main Text: The primary source of information and language knowledge, and provides models for monologue. Assignments include exercises to develop language fundamentals (word forms, collocations, case relations, word formation, synonyms, etc.), exercises to check comprehension of the text, and exercises to develop coherent spoken and written expression. The vocabulary work on commonly used verbs is strengthened in the language fundamentals exercises.
2. Dialogues: Dialogues for two or more people, aimed at cultivating various responses to events, such as agreement, approval, disagreement, questions, retorts, praise, doubt, exclamation, and conclusions. Students should understand the content of the dialogues, read and practice them accurately and fluently, and create their own dialogues based on given scenarios.
3. Reading Texts: Related articles selected according to the theme of the main text, aimed at developing reading comprehension and the ability to independently consult dictionaries.
4. Listening: Primarily aimed at improving listening skills while also consolidating learned vocabulary and appropriately developing speech skills.
5. Checkpoint Assignments: Based on a comprehensive review of the learned language material, these assignments assess students' monologue and dialogue skills within the scope of the topic. New words in the main text can be found in the master vocabulary list at the back of the book to cultivate the ability to use dictionaries and solve problems independently.
II. Grammar
The grammar in this volume focuses primarily on syntactic structures. The simple sentence section emphasizes the representation of main and secondary sentence components, with corresponding instruction on the meaning and usage of various common prepositions. The compound sentence section includes patterns and usage of various coordinate and subordinate compound sentences, as well as compound sentences without conjunctions. Syntactic structures also include co-ordinated elements, generalizing words, independent elements, appositives, interjections, and parenthetical clauses. Grammar knowledge is generally presented through sentence patterns, followed by brief explanations and annotations. The textbook provides a large number of exercises for teachers to choose from. Teachers should strengthen skill practice aimed at developing proficiency based on students' actual levels. Each lesson should also include a certain amount of written homework.
