The Advanced Practical Module integrates 3 parts, focusing on teaching the practical English skills that contemporary college students need. Contemporary College English is edited by the renowned British textbook author Neville Grant and Professor Gu Riguo, Dean of the School of Applied English and Doctoral Supervisor at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Experts and professors from seven universities—Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing Institute of Technology, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Southwest Jiaotong University—participated in its compilation.
Brief Introduction to the Basic Common Core Module
Comprehensive English (Comprehensive English) is based on authentic English texts and provides comprehensive English skills training, including the teaching and cultivation of learning techniques. The 4 levels of Comprehensive English also build a complete network of cultural knowledge, organically combining language teaching, cultural instruction, and basic quality education.
Interactive English (Interactive English) breaks through the traditional design of listening and speaking courses. The 4 levels cover the main functions of English communication, emphasizing the development of students' communicative competence while incorporating cyclic practice of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Enrichment Reading (Enrichment Reading) follows the cultural knowledge structure network of Comprehensive English, providing learners with a wealth of authentic English texts and opportunities to think critically with questions, fostering students' ability to learn perfectly and independently.
The features of the Contemporary College English series include: authentic and life-oriented language materials that can be applied immediately; a combination of language, culture, and knowledge, emphasizing the cultivation of quality and learning abilities; a focus on communicative methods, highlighting the integrated training and complementary cyclic practice of the five skills; and facilitating student-centered classroom activities. Contemporary College English is accompanied by audio cassettes, detailed teacher's manuals, and CDs for self-study and self-assessment.
