The features of this book are as follows:
1. Considering that adult learners of Japanese often lack a Japanese language environment, we have adopted the teaching philosophy that emphasizes grammar systems, which has been highly successful in China, while also giving some attention to sentence patterns and communicative functions. This approach ensures that students build a solid language foundation and have strong "potential" for further learning.
2. We place great importance on pronunciation training, providing thorough guidance on phonetics. Japanese phonetics include final consonants of syllables, pitch accent of words, pitch accent of compound words, pitch changes in verb conjugation forms, sentence stress, and intonation, among other aspects. The content is rich and highly practical. The book provides pronunciation guidance throughout all chapters of the 1st to 4th volumes.
3. In terms of the grammar system, we primarily refer to the grammar theories represented by Mr. Okada Yasushi of the Japanese Educational Science Research Association · National Language Committee (Linguistic Society), while also incorporating reasonable elements from other grammatical theories. This allows us to have a more comprehensive understanding of Japanese grammar and design a more perfect grammar system, which is also more beneficial for learners.
4. In terms of grammar content, we mainly follow the "Basic Stage Teaching Syllabus for Japanese Majors in Higher Education" issued by the State Education Commission in 1990. However, in terms of arrangement, we have reasonably adjusted and considered the order of grammar content based on the actual application of Japanese.
5. From the beginning, students are introduced to both narrative and conversational styles. In the arrangement of conversational styles, we discard "textbook Japanese" and emphasize both plain and polite forms, enabling students to master different expressions based on interpersonal relationships and bridging the gap between textbook language and real-life language.
6. The topics of the texts in this book cover a wide range, with lively and vivid language. The length and difficulty of the texts are appropriately balanced,、.
7. The texts and dialogues use standard notation, helping students develop a correct understanding of the standard mixed writing system of Japanese "kanji + kana" from the start.
8. Considering the practical needs of using computers, learners are required to be proficient in "Romaji."
9. In the first two volumes, each chapter includes "connecting words." This not only expands vocabulary but also serves as a categorized word list, making it convenient for users to look up similar words.
10. In line with practical needs, we consciously strengthen the learning of "loanwords" in the texts and exercises.
11. In the third and fourth volumes, we imitate the question-setting style of the Japan Foundation's "Japanese Language Proficiency Test" and, based on students' actual levels, arrange a "proficiency test" after every five chapters to further enhance their ability to comprehensively apply the language knowledge they have learned.
12. To facilitate readers' use, we have included convenient and practical appendices after the main text: an index of phonetic items, an index of grammatical items, an index of connecting words, a master vocabulary list, etc.
