Features: This exercise book is a supplementary learning material compiled for the textbook Comprehensive English I, which was uniformly organized and written by the National Higher Education Self-Study Examination Guidance Committee. It is meticulously crafted in strict accordance with the teaching syllabus of Comprehensive English I. The purpose of this book is not to help candidates pass the exam by cramming or relying on luck, as there is no advice in this book on exam techniques or shortcuts. The entire book focuses on deepening the understanding of Comprehensive English I (both volumes), consolidating acquired knowledge, filling in gaps caused by oversight, and fundamentally cultivating candidates' ability to use English. Of course, this book ultimately aims to help candidates pass the exam, but this "passing" is genuine and high-quality, not a "slip-through." The Comprehensive English I course is a performance-based test, not an ability-based test. Performance-based tests mean what is learned is what is tested, and questions are strictly formulated according to the teaching syllabus. The syllabus stipulates that 70% of the exam questions must cover textbook content. This means that without studying the textbook thoroughly, there is no hope of passing the exam. This regulation forces those who rely on exam techniques to return to the textbook and study English earnestly.
We say this exercise book is not intended for exam preparation because candidates who have not completed Comprehensive English I (both volumes) cannot use it. Additionally, relying solely on these 15 sets of exercises is not enough to learn English well. We want to tell candidates: Do not substitute exercises for the textbook, and do not replace classroom learning with practice exercises. We also want to tell candidates: If you have completed Comprehensive English I (both volumes) and finish one set of exercises in this book within the stipulated time, but score only around 30 or 40 points, then there is no need to do more exercises. Re-studying the two volumes would be more beneficial.
The book contains 15 sets of exercises, with reference answers provided at the end. During compilation, we have strived to integrate the vocabulary, sentence patterns, grammatical phenomena, and textbook content stipulated in the syllabus into the exercises. For some more challenging or less easily grasped knowledge, we have repeatedly presented them in different forms to help students understand and master them thoroughly.
