Features: This textbook is written for first-year students of the Bulgarian Language and Literature program at Beijing Foreign Studies University. It includes the teaching content for the semester and is one of the textbooks used for Bulgarian language teaching in the previous two years. As the textbook for Bulgarian language fundamentals, this book primarily focuses on cultivating four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and translation. Therefore, the selected materials are designed to be close to life, simple, and suitable for oral communication. The writing principle of the textbook is to distribute difficulties and proceed step by step. The first 11 lessons are used to explain phonetics and orthography. Starting from the 11th lesson, students are required to accumulate vocabulary and basic grammar knowledge. This approach is adopted because students have already undergone about a month of intensive language training. The last 6 lessons cover vocabulary and grammar. This textbook was written based on many years of teaching practice and references to certain characteristics of Chinese students learning Bulgarian as well as the language itself. When writing the textbook, the authors adopted or referenced the experience and some lessons and exercises from the textbooks published by Sofia University and the Institute of Foreign Students.
