Examples of Common German Verbs

Features: This verb handbook includes 468 of the most commonly used verbs in German. Most of these verbs belong to the 2,000 basic vocabulary of German. Mastering these 2,000 basic words will enable you to understand general and not too difficult articles. Some verbs are included in this book because they frequently appear in German articles about China. This book is helpful for all German learners, for self-study, and for preparing lessons. For each verb, the book indicates its separable prefix (ab/fahren), notes the formation of the perfect tense (using haben or sein), and lists the basic forms of irregular verbs (e.g., past tense, third-person singular: nahm, present perfect tense, third-person singular: hat genommen). Additionally, the book explains how each verb is used in a sentence, providing one or more sentence structures and example sentences for each verb. The sentence structures indicate which sentence components a verb must be paired with to make the sentence grammatically complete and correct. It must be noted that the sentence structures only represent the "skeleton" or core of the sentence, which can almost be arbitrarily expanded based on context and occasion.
