Features: This book is the main part of the "Oriental" series of university-level Russian textbooks jointly compiled by Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Moscow Pushkin Russian Language Institute, designed for the third semester. The teaching tasks for this stage are:
1. To teach commonly used vocabulary and sentence patterns within the scope of daily life, study, and general socio-cultural topics, cultivating students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and developing their communicative abilities in dialogue and narration;
2. To continue teaching basic grammar, laying a solid foundation in grammar;
3. To closely integrate reading, speech training, and grammar instruction to improve pronunciation and intonation;
4. To gradually develop students' ability to work independently through reading texts and consulting vocabulary.
The third book consists of 12 lessons, covering over 960 new words (excluding supplementary texts) and more than 20 grammar points. The structure of the textbook is as follows:
I. Vocabulary and Speech Training
1. Model Sentences: Provides commonly used speech models for the topic, and mastering these sentences correctly and fluently will prepare students for contextual dialogues.
2. Dialogue Examples: Demonstrates the application of speech models in typical communicative situations. Dialogues include many words and phrases from the speech models. Students should understand the content of the dialogues, grasp the usage of words, read and practice them accurately and fluently, retell the content, and create dialogues according to given scenarios or by following examples.
3. Main Text: Provides examples of narrative monologues. Exercises include those that develop language fundamentals (word forms, collocations, case endings, cognates, synonyms, etc.), checks for comprehension of the text, and activities to improve coherent spoken and written expression. In the language fundamentals exercises, emphasis is placed on vocabulary work for commonly used verbs.
4. Supplementary Texts: Supplements the main texts, focusing on developing the ability to grasp the main idea of reading materials and independently consult dictionaries.
5. Listening: Primarily aims to improve listening skills while consolidating learned vocabulary and appropriately developing speech abilities.
6. Assessment: Based on a comprehensive review of the learned language materials, it evaluates students' abilities in dialogue and monologue (spoken and written) within the scope of the topic. The vocabulary and language materials provided in the textbook (items 1–3) are the focus of the final assessment. Classes with a higher starting level may appropriately increase the requirements for supplementary texts and listening materials.
Students can consult the comprehensive word list at the back of the book for new words in the speech models, dialogues, and main texts. Some new words in the supplementary texts can be independently resolved by consulting a dictionary.
II. Grammar
The grammar content of this book primarily focuses on morphological items. These include the usage of various pronouns, the usage of verb tenses and aspects, the usage of the imperative and infinitive aspects, the formation and usage of adjectival verbs (participles), adverbial verbs, and the usage of collective numerals, as well as the representation of large and fractional numbers.
Syntactic items include relative clauses and attributive clauses, which are an extension of the topics learned in the second book. Direct and indirect speech are also included to enable students to practice converting sentence structures within the range of common simple and compound sentences, thereby improving their speech abilities.
Before class, students should independently preview the materials. Class time should primarily be used for practical exercises to transform the taught grammar knowledge into language skills and proficiency. After class, students should complete a certain amount of written assignments.
