What happens during tubal dye?

Patient's question:

Hysterosalpingography is it an examination or a surgery? Does the family member need to sign the consent form? Is there a risk of life-threatening? How long does the entire process take? Is it very painful?

Doctor's answer:

When women are infertile, they can undergo a fallopian tube patency test, including procedures like fallopian tube angiography, to understand whether the fallopian tubes are blocked and to achieve some therapeutic effects. Fallopian tube angiography mainly involves two steps:
1. Iodine allergy test: Before performing the angiography, the doctor will apply a very small amount of iodine oil to the conjunctiva and observe carefully for 10–15 minutes to see how the conjunctiva becomes red and swollen. If the reaction is severe, it is not suitable to use iodine oil.
2. Angiography: The angiography is performed under the scan of an X-ray machine, and the iodine oil’s filling and flowing in the uterus and fallopian tubes are observed carefully on the monitor.
