Patient's question:
My son is only 2 years old now. Last month, we discovered a lump in his abdomen and took him to the hospital for a check-up. To our surprise, the doctors confirmed that there was a high possibility of hepatoblastoma. We then went to several major hospitals, but the doctors' answers were all the same. Can this disease be treated? How should it be treated?Doctor's answer:
Hepatoblastoma, although a malignant tumor, still has a high cure rate. Moreover, children's bodies are different from adults', so don't give up easily. If both the left and right lobes of the liver are involved, direct surgery is very difficult. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) should be further tested for a definitive diagnosis. If it is hepatoblastoma, chemotherapy can be administered first to shrink and harden the tumor, to determine whether surgical resection is possible.
