A Collection of Research and Teaching on Chinese Painting

Features: In the mid-1980s, during the heated debates on art, the author once emphasized the "coexistence" of Eastern and Western art and the need for "in-depth research" when discussing the issue of "macro-strategies for the selection and development of Chinese painting." Two decades have passed since then. Over the past 20 years, there have been significant advancements in both the practical exploration and theoretical research of Chinese painting, and the atmosphere of fervor, urgency, and narrow-mindedness has been replaced by the current calm, tolerance, and diversity. Indeed, this is the time for us to respond to the era's challenge of modern transformation from the perspective of the intrinsic cultural values of Chinese culture! Although the task of reconstructing the value system of modern Chinese art is far from easy, and in fact, it is the result of a complex interplay of historical and social factors, I believe that we can establish four solid foundations inspired by the traditional painters of the 20th century, right under our own feet: achieving a true understanding of tradition; comprehending the similarities and differences between Eastern and Western painting, especially the different bases of artistic and value perspectives; having confidence in the autonomous development of tradition and the future prospects of national art; and developing a conscious strategy for the advancement of Chinese painting.
