Is uterine polyps a serious condition?

Patient's question:

Is uterine polyps serious?

Doctor's answer:

Uterine polyps are not considered serious. Polyps are benign inflammatory growths, so there is no need to worry too much. However, polyps will never disappear or grow larger with medication and strict relief; they will persist for a long time. Additionally, repeated inflammatory stimulation may cause them to shrink, or they may even lead to malignant transformation. Therefore, it is still important to actively manage them. If the polyps are not too large at the moment, they can be removed through hysteroscopy. If the polyps are larger, a dilation and curettage (D&C) surgery can be performed to remove them.
