Titian Vecellio (1482-1576) was one of the most outstanding artists of the "Venetian School" during the height of the Italian Renaissance. His artistic achievements brought the "Venetian School" art to its pinnacle. He was the patriarch of the Venetian School. His contemporary art biographer Vasari deeply admired this great realist painter and highly praised his artistic accomplishments. He remarked, "In Italy, no one could match Titian's painting talent, not even Raphael or Leonardo da Vinci." Titian was a rare long-lived and prolific painter. He outlived Michelangelo by many years, living to be over 90, so his artistic career spanned almost the entire 16th century; he was diligent throughout his life, creating over 1,000 works.
