Housing is the center of family life. For most people, a significant portion of their lives is spent in their homes, and the demand for housing is a fundamental need in human life. When people are still struggling to meet their basic needs, housing is merely seen as a shelter in their minds, serving as a private space separated from the vast natural world to gain a sense of security. In today's prosperous society, the role of housing as a mere shelter has diminished, and people seek comfort and aesthetic appeal from it. In recent years, numerous books on indoor residential design have been published domestically, but there are still very few resources available on the exterior design of residential buildings. A comfortable and beautiful living environment should include both indoor and outdoor spaces, forming a harmonious whole.
To address this, we have compiled a substantial amount of material to create this reference series, Modern Residential Building Exterior Design. This book is the first volume of the series, featuring over 300 sets of exterior images of villa-style residences, supplemented by floor plans. Some entries also include multi-angle exterior views or interior photos showcasing the architectural structure, aiming to provide readers with a complete and accurate representation of the exterior and structural design. In selecting the villa residences for this book, we have included not only luxurious and elegant villas but also many small-scale, simple, fresh, and uniquely styled villas that align with China's national conditions.
This book is primarily compiled as a reference for architects and designers. With China's economic growth, the number of villas has been increasing, especially in affluent rural areas where newly built homes are trending toward villa styles. We hope this book will also offer valuable inspiration for the general public when they are building or selecting new homes.
The following individuals contributed to the selection, translation, and layout design of this book: Hu Jiangping, Li Zhijun, Yao Heping, Tan Weidong, Chen Zhicheng, Yao Meijuan, He Lanping, Hu Ming, Huang Hong, He Lan, Qin Zhikun, Zhou Haiming, Lu Zhijuan, Chen Cheng, Wang Jun, Zhou Hailian, Zheng Minhui, Li Bo, Wang Bao'an, Zhu Jixue, Li Haiyan, Yi Xin, Luo Quansheng, Zhang Liping, Feng Shu'en, Zhong Xuehong, Feng Xiaofan, Feng Weijin, Xu Qingsheng, and Li Deheng.
During the editing process, this book received strong support from various sectors of society. Many architects and real estate companies provided valuable materials and offered specific guidance and assistance in the selection process. We sincerely thank them for their contributions! Due to the sources from which the residential designs were compiled, it is impossible to list them all. Some of the exterior images were reproduced from advertisements and other materials, and errors or omissions may exist. We welcome readers' feedback and corrections.
Limited by the sources of the materials, we could not list the names of the residential designers, nor could we thank each one individually. Here, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the designers and residents of these homes.
