Patient's question:
Wondering how to distinguish between a miscarriage and menstruation? Both involve bleeding, what are the differences? Please help clarify this for me, thank you.Doctor's answer:
Miscarriage is different from menstruation. Miscarriage first occurs after pregnancy, when there is vaginal bleeding after a missed period, which is considered a miscarriage. Miscarriage bleeding is usually heavier and often accompanied by large blood clots, with possible abdominal pain and prolonged bleeding. Normal menstruation does not occur outside of the menstrual period, with relatively light bleeding, dark red in color without blood clots, and generally without abdominal pain, with short bleeding duration. Therefore, miscarriage is different from normal menstruation.
