Features: If there is anyone in the world who doesn't have the word "laziness" in their mind, it must be the Chinese. This is clearly the result of years of hard struggle for survival. Even in the sparsely populated northwest region, thousands of people work from sunrise to sunset every day, laboring day after day, only to earn meager harvests in the end. Here, you can ask a man to do almost anything without needing to notify him in advance, because there are simply too many people to be found. The "Reminiscences of China Series" collects comments from various perspectives, with different purposes and voices, ranging from court officials to peddlers and laborers. It aims to provide a reference for us to understand modern and contemporary China, Chinese culture, and the character of the Chinese people. Special attention is given to what is called folk discourse—this is a vivid discourse, distinct from what Bakhtin referred to as "carnival discourse," which is different from official discourse. However, this discourse is directed at a country with ancient traditions and a world entirely different from the West.
