Features: This book is the textual companion to the 52-episode animated series "The Great Hero Di Qing," telling the legendary story of Di Qing, a general of the Northern Song Dynasty, from his early efforts to his final rise as the commander-in-chief of the border troops. Di Qing lost his parents at the age of eight, coinciding with the rise of the Xixia ruler Yuanhao, who declared himself emperor and launched a military campaign against the Song Dynasty, putting the borders in peril. Determined to serve his country, he became a disciple of an abbott in a temple, studying diligently and practicing martial arts. As he grew up, he became a wise and brave general, skilled in strategy. Known for his integrity, he fearlessly stood up to the powerful imperial relatives and uncles, enduring relentless struggles. At the time, the Song army was repeatedly defeated by the Xixia forces, exhibiting cowardice and hesitation in battle. After joining the army, Di Qing demonstrated both courage and wisdom, boldly employing advanced firearms to heavily injure the Xixia cavalry. This finally made King Yuanhao realize that only achieving national reconciliation was the only way forward, leading to a peace treaty with the Song Dynasty. Di Qing himself rose from a commoner to become the commander guarding the borders and the chief of the National Military Council, becoming a household name and a great hero. The entire story vividly portrays Di Qing's willingness to abandon high-ranking positions and personal desires for the sake of serving his country, leaving the capital to join the army and fight on the front lines. It reflects his lofty patriotism and love for the people. Moreover, it highlights the historical truth and inevitable trend of seeking common ground while respecting differences, promoting tolerance and reconciliation among the various ethnic groups within the Chinese family.
