This series received widespread acclaim from the academic community and generated positive social. Seven years later, the authors who were selected for the "Selected Works" have gradually aged, while a new generation of middle-aged linguists with solid foundations and significant achievements continues to emerge. In light of this, Anhui Education Press consulted opinions from some scholars in the linguistics field and planned to continue editing and publishing "Selected Works of Prominent Middle-aged Linguists" to further advance the development of linguistics research in China. The editing work for this series began in 1999. In March of that year, editors from Anhui Education Press traveled to Beijing to discuss the editorial format, operational procedures, and details of the "Selected Works" with relevant scholars from the Institute of Linguistics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It was agreed that Wu Fuxiang from the Institute of Linguistics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, along with Wan Zhichun and Yao Li from Anhui Education Press, would form the editorial team for the "Selected Works." To ensure the academic rigor and authority of the series, the editorial team specially invited 16 renowned senior linguists, including Guo Xiliang, to serve as academic advisors for the series. Through various channels, the team widely solicited and listened to suggestions and opinions from scholars of different age groups in the linguistics field. In May of the same year, based on thorough research and repeated consultations, the editorial team established the criteria and basis for selecting authors for the "Selected Works": 1. Primarily engaged in the study of Chinese (including Chinese characters) or theoretical linguistic research related to Chinese. 2. Made outstanding contributions in specific research fields and have a certain influence in the linguistics community. 3. Age between 45 and 60, with work units limited to universities or research institutions in mainland China. 4. Appropriately consider the representativeness of disciplines and research fields. According to these criteria, after repeated deliberation and discussion, the editorial team drafted a candidate list for consultation and reference, which was sent to each academic advisor. They were requested to recommend authors for the "Selected Works" by marking the names on the candidate list.
