Features: The book The Riddle of the Universe, published in 1899, not only provides a clear account of the great achievements of 19th-century natural science, particularly the theory of biological evolution, but also conducts a serious exploration of the origins and development of the universe, Earth, life, species, humans, and their consciousness, based on the scientific understanding of the time. It strives to paint a materialist worldview for people using the facts provided by natural science. This book on the "riddle of the universe" sparked numerous controversial articles when it was first published two decades ago. Today, we are republishing it in its original form. This book has been translated into many foreign languages (published in 24 different languages). In 1904, I wrote another important supplementary work, The Miracle of Life. I have included my other more recent supplementary works here. The newly published History of Evolutionism by Dr. Heinrich Schmidt (Jena) is an extremely rich reference for my philosophical works and a highly valuable supplementary reading. This book attempts to elucidate the fundamental concepts of evolutionary thought across the entire scientific field and to demonstrate the intrinsic connections between various aspects of human inquiry and thought. This attempt has garnered significant attention because it overcomes the traditional mystical theory of creation with rational natural evolution, guiding us from the theological fabrication of dualism to a monistic naturalistic epistemology. For the details of this philosophical revolution, please see the preface to my address Monism as the Bond Between Religion and Science (16th edition), which was published around the same time.
