Features: Galdós is a master of language, endowing each character in the book with distinct linguistic traits, which plays a vital role in character portrayal. Additionally, this work incorporates various literary forms. While primarily narrative, it interweaves theatrical forms, diary entries, or letters, making the storyline more vivid and engaging. This book is another masterpiece by the great Spanish writer Galdós. The novel depicts beautiful Isidora, who was misled by her parents from a young age and grew up in a sickly family. After her mad father's death, she goes to Madrid to find her aunt and brother, living with her godfather, pursued by many men and involved in debauchery. However, the one she loves is a money-hungry man named Juan Pez. Later, she is arrested for perjury, pretending to be the granddaughter of a marquess, and eventually commits suicide. Her brother is also sentenced to death for assassinating the king. The novel primarily adopts a narrative form but also combines theatrical, diary, or letter formats. By depicting the destruction of Isidora and her brother's family, it successfully reflects the social contradictions, moral corruption, and judicial corruption of Spain at the time.
She was stripped of everything.
