Features: This series of books focuses on exploring the cultural connotations of several types of words in Chinese, such as communicative etiquette expressions, place names, color terms, and popular slang. In our discussions, we emphasize both the multiple internal connections of these words with traditional culture, as well as the relationship between semantic evolution and social and historical changes. At the same time, we also pay great attention to the many new changes that these words have undergone in modern society. It is well-known that since the reform and opening-up, tremendous changes have occurred in both Chinese society and culture. The new information age has brought about many internet slang terms, and the campus is with a new generation of young people, giving rise to some campus slang. Economic prosperity has led to rapid expansion in urban development and construction, resulting in many new place names, street names, and new terms for residential areas, as well as many new changes in communicative expressions and color terms. All of these new words or new linguistic and cultural connotations that emerge with the new era, new culture, and new trends are extensively reflected in this small series of books. This book explores social popular slang and fashion culture since the 20th century, including: popular slang from the 1920s-1930s, popular slang from the 1950s-1970s, and popular slang from the 1980s onwards. It particularly analyzes university popular slang and campus culture, as well as internet slang.
