Spring and Autumn Annals: The History of Turmoil

Author: Li Mengsheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1997-08-01
Features: According to later interpretations, the purpose of this book's narration is mainly to admonish and punish. The first is to encourage virtue and suppress evil, advocating righteousness and drawing lessons from success and failure. The second is to promote resisting foreign invaders and respecting the monarchy, advocating the principles of the king and the hegemon, as well as the king's way. In terms of organization, it follows the format of the series and is divided into five parts: "Struggle for Supremacy on the Battlefield," "Wise Ministers and Talented Individuals," "Treachery and Rebellion," "Unjust and Tyrannical Monarchs," and "Debates and Rhetoric." These themes are actually intertwined in every article, so this classification can only be approximate. In the commentary for each piece, it is necessary to occasionally deviate from the central focus of each category to elaborate, otherwise, it would be difficult to avoid repetitive repetition of similar ideas. The content of the commentary is both intended to elucidate the thoughts of the classics and to parallel historical facts, allowing readers to derive the knowledge they need from Confucian thought and historical facts.
