The Great Series of New Chinese Literature is a collection of theories and works from the first decade (1917–1927) of the New Chinese Literature Movement, edited by Lu Xun, Mao Dun, and others. It was compiled and edited by Zhao Jiabi of Shanghai Liangyou Book Company and published between 1935 and 1936. The entire series is divided into ten volumes, with a preface by and introductions by the compilers: Volume 1: The Collection of Construction Theories (compiled by Hu Shi), Volume 2: The Collection of Literary Debates (compiled by Zheng Zhenduo), Volume 3: The First Collection of Novels (compiled by Mao Dun), Volume 4: The Second Collection of Novels (compiled by Lu Xun), Volume 5: The Third Collection of Novels (compiled by Zheng Boqi), Volume 6: The First Collection of Prose (compiled by Zhou Zuoren), Volume 7: The Second Collection of Prose (compiled by Yu Dafu), Volume 8: The Collection of Poems (compiled by Zhu Ziqing), Volume 9: The Collection of Plays (compiled by Hong Shen), and Volume 10: Historical Materials and Indexes (compiled by Ai Ying). In June 1981, 20,000 sets were facsimile-printed according to the original books, and in June 2003, another 3,000 sets were facsimile-printed to meet reader demand.
