Patient's question:
Because I am planning to have a second child, I had my IUD removed, and my menstrual period has been very light. Is it normal to have a light menstrual period after removing the IUD?Doctor's answer:
The removal of an intrauterine device (IUD) itself does not cause a decrease in menstrual flow. When the IUD was inserted previously, the insertion process could lead to an increase in menstrual volume and a shortening of the menstrual cycle duration. Now that the IUD is removed, the menstrual flow may return to normal. If the cycle is regular and the menstrual period lasts between 2 to 8 days, there is no need to worry. Pay close attention during this period, avoid strenuous exercise, and refrain from consuming cold, spicy, or irritating foods. Abstinence from sexual activity is also recommended.
