Patient's question:
My son is 8 years old. Last month on the 7th, while playing, he fell off a truck. The doctor at the hospital diagnosed him with a right epidural hematoma and he was hospitalized for 9 days. Currently, he has no symptoms. I would like to ask the doctor at the hospital, is an epidural hematoma asymptomatic?Doctor's answer:
Hello, it is a pleasure to assist you; epidural hematoma accounts for 20% to 30% of traumatic intracranial hematomas, with subacute or acute hematomas being more common. It is usually solitary, with epidural hematoma at the point of trauma combined with subdural hematoma at the opposite side being more frequent. The patients are predominantly young adults aged 15 to 50. Trauma associated with subacute or chronic epidural hematoma is typically mild, with linear fractures at the point of impact leading to local minor bleeding that gradually forms a hematoma.
