Features: To understand Tibetan religion as a whole, one should start by learning about Bonpo religion, as Bonpo religion is an inherent cultural characteristic of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. At the same time, Bonpo religion is also an important part of Tibetan traditional culture. Before Buddhism was introduced to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, Bonpo culture was the dominant and orthodox religious culture in Tibetan regions. Rooted in ancient times, Bonpo religion has gone through all the history and evolution processes of ancient Tibetan society and has played a driving role in the civilization and progress of early Tibetan society. Similarly, during the later formation of Tibetan Buddhism, Bonpo religion, with a broad mass base, also played an irreplaceable major role. The origin, formation, and development of Tibetan Buddhism are also closely linked to the historical process and cultural evolution of Indian Buddhism. If one were to exaggerate, Tibetan Buddhism could be seen as a "copy" of Indian Buddhist religious culture that was directly transplanted to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Currently, during its formation and development, Tibetan Buddhism has also been greatly influenced by Tibetan traditional culture, particularly Bonpo religion. In some aspects, it even adopted the theoretical framework and way of thinking of Bonpo religion to accept or assimilate Buddhist culture from India. Therefore, Tibetan Buddhism has a distinct highland characteristic that sets it apart from other Buddhist branches.
