What types of uterine fibroids are there?

Patient's question:

I have been experiencing long-term physical discomfort. Since giving birth to my child, I've been having bloating and pain in my lower abdomen. Yesterday, I started bleeding vaginally, and it was a lot. I've also had my period for a long time now. I've been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, but I still don't know the specific details.

Doctor's answer:

Intramural leiomyoma: More common at the initial onset of uterine leiomyoma, the leiomyoma is located within the uterine muscle wall, surrounded entirely by muscle tissue. It is the most common type of uterine leiomyoma, accounting for approximately 60-70% of all cases.
Submucosal leiomyoma: Submucosal leiomyomas make up about 10% of cases. They develop when an intramural leiomyoma grows into the uterine cavity, becoming thinner within the cavity and directly contacting the mucosal layer. This type of tumor can gradually reduce and deform the uterine cavity and is often connected to the uterus by a stalk. If the stalk is long, it may obstruct the cervix or prolapse into the vagina.
