This original English reading material, imported from abroad, fully stimulates teenagers' rich imagination through fairy tales, science fiction stories, and school-life anecdotes. It cultivates excellent qualities such as wit, courage, resilience, and a willingness to help, further broadens students' horizons, and organically combines language learning with cultural enrichment and inspirational education—something rarely seen in domestic-imported English reading materials in recent years. To help some readers overcome difficulties and increase interest, a Chinese "plot summary" is provided before each story; an excerpt of "Reading Stories, Learning Spoken English" at the end of the book includes lively and practical English sentences popular among teenagers; teachers or parents can guide reading activities through "Reading Reflection Questions." Key vocabulary and language points in the stories are listed as footnotes at the bottom of the pages, and a detailed "Glossary" is also provided at the back. This series is suitable for students in the second year of junior high school.
Seventy years ago, a disastrous prophecy from a wizard forced the entire village to relocate and build a cave village in the darkness. The villagers lived generation after generation in the dark, gradually forgetting the world above the horizon and never questioning whether they had been deceived. The smart and brave teenager Jacob, after learning the truth from the old man Gerat, finally overcame numerous dangers and, together with his companions, arrived in the bright world: where the air was warm and pleasant, where the water tinkled softly, and where there was an endless blue sky—saving the villagers of the cave village!
