Features: This textbook is divided into two parts: General Theory and Specific Topics. The General Theory consists of six chapters, outlining the research objects and tasks of pharmacognosy, its origins and development; the main factors affecting the quality of medicinal materials; the processing of medicinal materials and its impact on their chemical constituents and efficacy; as well as the identification, resources, and development of medicinal materials. The Specific Topics are divided into twelve chapters, covering a total of 222 medicinal materials, including 187 plant drugs, 23 animal drugs, and 12 mineral drugs. Plant drugs are classified by their medicinal parts, with an overview of their definitions, characteristics, key microscopic identification points, and other identification methods. Each medicinal material is described in terms of its name, source, origin, collection and processing, chemical constituents, characteristics, microscopic features, physicochemical identification, content determination, pharmacological effects, efficacy, notes, and appendices. Key medicinal materials are also accompanied by diagrams of their external and microscopic features, as well as thin-layer chromatography diagrams.
