Features: Over the past decade and more since China's reform and opening-up, a group of energetic, intellectually vibrant, well-rounded, and skilled in both traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine has emerged, becoming the backbone of TCM teaching, research, and clinical practice. To comprehensively inherit the traditional knowledge of TCM, recognize and summarize its modern advancements, and meet the needs of TCM and integrated Chinese and Western medicine practitioners in understanding TCM knowledge across various disciplines, dozens of TCM doctors and masters have devoted years of effort. Referencing multiple early reference books such as The Great Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine, The Great Dictionary of Chinese Materia Medica, The Great Dictionary of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Chinese Medical Dietetics, Dictionary of Chinese Medical Personalities, The Great Dictionary of Formulas, and The Great Dictionary of Qigong, they have written this work with the aim of being authoritative, scientific, accurate, and accessible. It comprehensively includes entries on TCM experimental studies, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, TCM instruments, as well as health preservation, medical dietetics, and Qigong. Thus, they have compiled the first large-scale comprehensive TCM reference work in China—The Great Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Zhongyi Cihai).
The Great Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine is divided into three volumes, totaling over 10 million words and containing more than 50,000 entries. It is the first reference work to arrange entries by stroke order across disciplines, highlighting its comprehensive nature. The content covers TCM basic theory, TCM diagnostics, classical medical literature, medical history and documents, pharmacology, formulae, TCM experimental studies, TCM instruments, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, dermatology, otolaryngology, acupuncture and moxibustion, Tuina therapy, medical dietetics, health preservation, and Qigong. It encompasses the content of all disciplines within TCM, spanning knowledge from ancient to modern times, making it a comprehensive achievement in TCM and a significant milestone in the history of TCM development.
