In light of this situation, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has accelerated its work on developing standards related to environmental protection, embodying the spirit of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, which proposed that "humankind should pursue a path of sustainable development, where human development should seek harmonious coexistence with nature." Eventually, in 1996, ISO officially issued the ISO 14000 series of environmental management system standards. China's government has always attached great importance to environmental protection work. At the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, it clearly expressed its stance and attitude of strengthening environmental protection management and enhancing cooperation with other countries in this regard. As a developing country, China must balance economic development with environmental protection, facing more challenging tasks and greater workloads compared to developed countries. Over the past few years, the country has invested significant efforts in formulating a series of measures and plans for environmental protection and has encouraged industrial sectors to actively adopt the ISO 14000 series of standards, establishing an environmental management system that aligns with China's national conditions.
To promote and adopt the ISO 14000 series of standards, from the government to enterprises and institutions, it is essential to first gain an understanding of the standards, especially for those involved in environmental protection management. They must not only understand the standards but also implement them.
