World War II Art History Series. Volume 4. Bloody Battle in the Yellow Sands

Author: Edited by the editorial team of "War Illustrated" magazine in the UK, translated by Li Jinglong et al.
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This exquisite series, compiled from all current World War II materials for re-publication, has become the most comprehensive and vivid publication ever to document World War II. "The Illustrated History of World War II, Volume 4" covers the magazine issues from Week 71 to Week 100. No previous volume has documented so many significant events that shaped the war. It is hard to imagine unless you reach the end. For the chapters that follow, World War II will unfold at an even faster pace compared to the first seven months of 1941. In fact, our text and images will prove to be a photographic record of the historically significant global conflict. The British army achieved a stunning victory over the Italians in North Africa, greatly accelerating the collapse of Mussolini's forces; the critically important Battle of Matapan dealt a heavy blow to the Italian navy; the Greeks bravely resisted the fascist invasion; the South Africans conducted flawless diplomatic maneuvers; the betrayal of Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary allowed Nazi Germany to dominate the Balkans; the short-lived Iraqi revolution; on the Syrian front, the Vichy government's transformation led his former French allies, under General Dainse, to turn their guns against hostile French forces. Fortunately, this gave Germany a new direction for its eastward advance, which did nothing to benefit Hitler; the tremendous growth of the British air force signaled that soon air superiority would be firmly in the hands of the powerful Royal Air Force; the sensational breakdown of relations between Germany and the Soviet Union dramatically expanded the war's geographical scope; the Americans took major steps to ensure cooperation with the British—apart from a few new chapters, this is the main content of world history described in this volume over the course of seven months. We need not emphasize the immense difficulties in publishing "The Illustrated History of World War II." Although the UK was the primary target of German aggression, we do not wish this book to be edited, published, and widely distributed only in the UK and its allies. We will spare no effort to promote this series. This innovation is aimed at achieving its original purpose: to complete a vivid photographic record of World War II, the historical impact of which will undoubtedly overshadow all previous works.
