Can I get pregnant three months after ectopic pregnancy surgery with an IUD?

Patient's question:

Three months ago, I had an ectopic pregnancy surgery and had my right fallopian tube removed. I also had an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted. Now, I haven't had my period for 40 days. Today at noon, I bought pregnancy test strips to see if I might be pregnant. The test result was positive, but I'm still wearing the IUD. I'm wondering what to do if I get pregnant with an IUD in place?

Doctor's answer:

Women can also become pregnant again after having an IUD inserted. There is no need to be overly anxious. Currently, a comprehensive evaluation and speculation can be made through a detailed ultrasound examination of the uterine appendages. If the menstrual period has been delayed for 40 days, it may still be impossible to see a gestational sac inside the uterus. The time for a detailed abdominal ultrasound examination may need to be delayed to around 45 days or 49 days. Through a detailed transvaginal color Doppler ultrasound examination, the gestational sac is usually visible at around 35 days.
Now, based on your own situation, you can wait and see if you want to have a child. If you decide not to have a child, it could be considered a miscarriage.
