Is it okay to have sexual intercourse if you haven't had your period after a miscarriage?

Patient's question:

My cousin is 23 years old this year. Through a friend's introduction, she met a boyfriend. The two of them get along very well and have been together for a year, then they got married. Both of them really love having children, and soon after, my cousin got pregnant. They were all very happy, so happy. Unbeknownst to what reason, it was a pity that my cousin had a miscarriage back then. My cousin told me, "Aunt, I haven't had my period for 35 days after my miscarriage, but I had sex with him again. What should I do?"

Doctor's answer:

If it has been 35 days since the miscarriage, your body should have basically recovered quite well. In this case, sexual activity generally has little significant impact. The main thing is that there is no reoccurrence of obvious vaginal bleeding during sexual activity, which would absolutely not affect your health. So, if you're not comfortable, it's generally recommended to have a follow-up ultrasound at the hospital about a month after the miscarriage to check on your body's recovery.
