Can I get pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy?

Patient's question:

My wife has an ectopic pregnancy, but a few days ago it was found that she is carrying a boy. We have always wanted to have a daughter, so we are considering having a second child. However, we are unsure if an ectopic pregnancy will affect our ability to have another child, so we would like to ask the doctor if it is possible to get pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy.

Doctor's answer:

Women can theoretically become pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy, as the gestational sac in a recurring ectopic pregnancy is usually located in the fallopian tube. If surgical treatment for ectopic pregnancy is performed, one fallopian tube may be removed. However, the human body has two fallopian tubes. As long as the other fallopian tube remains unobstructed, this situation has no significant impact on pregnancy.
