What are the reasons for language delay in a 2-week-old baby?

Patient's question:

Baby is two weeks old this Tuesday, but still can't speak. Only occasionally calls "Mommy," and can't call other names. Communication with the baby is understood; when asked to fetch something, the baby will comply, but doesn't pay attention to what adults say.

Doctor's answer:

This child was not very talkative at the age of two. Only when calling his mother could the child understand and communicate, which meant the child was fine. As long as the child has normal intelligence and mental health, he will eventually start talking. He usually talks more with the child, plays games, tells stories, watches him, and listens to him speak. It's okay to speak out. It won't take long to speak. These should not be a problem. We can do a language development assessment. If it is confirmed that the child is lagging in language development, corresponding language rehabilitation training will be needed.
