Features: Employment is the foundation of livelihood. The current employment policy in China is: laborers' self-employment, market-regulated employment, and government-promoted employment. With the continuous improvement of China's market economy system and the growing maturity of the labor market, the ability of laborers to engage in self-employment has become the key to realizing "the foundation of livelihood." Therefore, based on the 1999 edition of Occupational Guidance, we revised the book in light of the current situation and the teaching needs of vocational and technical schools. The purpose is to further strengthen occupational guidance for students, help them establish a correct career perspective, and improve their employability.
This textbook revolves around the core of employability, aiming to integrate knowledge, practicality, and training to help students strengthen their career awareness, understand employment policies, update their employment concepts, master job-seeking methods, and learn to reasonably protect their rights, ultimately enhancing their employment competitiveness.
This textbook has three main features:
First, it follows scientific occupational guidance theory. Contemporary mainstream occupational guidance theory emphasizes that laborers should choose careers based on their individual characteristics while also emphasizing the optimization of their psychological qualities according to career requirements, with a focus on lifelong career development. This textbook starts by helping students understand careers and themselves, then trains their job-seeking skills and cultivates entrepreneurial awareness in line with employment trends, always incorporating the essence of the aforementioned occupational guidance theory.
Second, it reflects the latest career and employment concepts. In 1999, China issued the first Occupational Classification Catalogue of the People's Republic of China, and in 2004, it introduced a new occupation release system. Meanwhile, the employment qualification and vocational certificate system has been continuously improved, marking the entry of China's national occupational standards into the practical application stage, which has played a significant role in promoting vocational education reform and the market-oriented allocation of labor resources. Based on this foundation, this textbook helps students establish correct career ideals and development perspectives, enabling them to design reasonable career plans, thereby encouraging more proactive and effective learning and training.
Third, it breaks away from traditional textbook writing formats. This textbook does not overly emphasize disciplinary systematicity but adheres to the principles of scientific utility and "teaching-practice integration," dividing the content into four units:
- The first unit aims to help students recognize careers and themselves, cultivating awareness and skills in career planning.
- The second unit provides foundational training in job-seeking skills.
- The third unit focuses on guiding students to learn how to use labor laws to protect their legitimate rights and interests.
- The fourth unit introduces relevant market knowledge to cultivate entrepreneurial awareness, expanding students' employment pathways and future career development opportunities.
The textbook uses numerous case studies to illustrate points and incorporates practical in-class and after-class exercises designed according to teaching principles, making it both instructional and readable—a bold innovation in the writing format of occupational guidance textbooks.
