Compared to the 2005 English Exam Syllabus, the most significant changes in the 2006 syllabus appear in Part B, where the question types have been changed from one to three optional types. They are:
1. The content of this part consists of an article with a total length of 500-600 words, including 5 blank spaces, followed by 6-7 paragraphs of text. Candidates are required to select 5 paragraphs from the 6-7 provided texts that can be placed in the 5 blank spaces in the article based on the content of the article.
2. In an article of approximately 500-600 words, the original order of the paragraphs has been scrambled. Candidates are required to rearrange the listed paragraphs according to the article and its structure, with the positions of 2-3 paragraphs in the article already given.
3. An article of about 500 words is preceded or followed by 6-7 paragraphs of text or 6-7 summary subtitles. These texts or subtitles provide summaries, explanations, or examples of certain parts of the article. Candidates are required to select the most appropriate 5 paragraphs or 5 subtitles from these 6-7 options to fill in the blank spaces in the article. Thus, the three optional question types essentially correspond to paragraph filling, paragraph sequencing, and title-content matching questions. The title-content matching question is further divided into two subtypes: one requiring the identification of examples and evidence, and the other requiring the summarization of the main ideas of the paragraphs. There are no changes in the Writing, English-Chinese Translation, English Knowledge Application, and Reading Comprehension Part A sections. Additionally, the 2006 preliminary exam still lacks a listening component. Overall, the difficulty of preparation for the 2006 exam has increased. This book includes 10 high-quality last sprint test papers and 10 sets of answers and solutions, all strictly compiled according to the 2006 exam syllabus. The Reading Comprehension Part B sections are all strictly written according to the four new question types specified in the syllabus. Moreover, the difficulty of the English Knowledge Application and Writing sections is appropriate, while the Reading section, Parts B and C, has about half of the articles with a certain level of difficulty, and Part A also includes some articles with higher difficulty. The reading passages are relatively representative, covering topics such as medicine, economics, humanities, science, environmental protection, psychology, education, society, and computer/internet. Some of the passages are selected from the latest foreign publications. Additionally, Part B includes various possible question types, making it highly representative.
