Publish Date: 2004-10-01
Features: This book is compiled by the author based on years of teaching and research. The intention behind its writing is to analyze the obvious disconnect from reality in current popular theories of workers' democratic participation, further clarifying the mechanisms and patterns that lead to compatible and contradictory phenomena in grassroots democratic participation. On one hand, it presents a realistic picture of grassroots workers' democratic participation, and on the other, it attempts to propose a relatively independent theoretical framework that defines the connotation and value of grassroots democratic participation. The book studies the fundamental characteristics of grassroots democratic participation, arguing that "participation" is the most basic and important form of grassroots democracy. Grassroots democratic participation depends on a certain labor relationship, and its effective implementation requires support from many conditions. The book explores the general models of the emergence and development of grassroots democratic participation, with a focus on the basic form of grassroots democratic participation in China—the workers' congress system—as well as the status and identity of workers in participation. By analyzing the positive and negative factors influencing the development of grassroots democratic participation, it makes a cautious prediction about the future prospects of grassroots democratic participation in China. The book conducts a comparative study of the theory and practice of workers' democratic participation in developed Western countries. Through an analysis of this worldwide phenomenon of workers' democratic participation, it highlights the inherent laws and objective inevitability of the existence and development of grassroots democratic participation.
