Could polyps be uterine fibroids?

Patient's question:

My wife has been experiencing lower abdominal heaviness, bloating, and pain recently, accompanied by abnormal vaginal bleeding. She went to the hospital for a gynecological examination and found that she had uterine polyps. We initially thought that taking medication would be enough to resolve the issue, but the doctor recommended surgical treatment, which made me very nervous. I was wondering if it could be a condition like uterine fibroids. For this reason, I wanted to ask if polyps are the same as uterine fibroids?

Doctor's answer:

Endometrial polyps and uterine fibroids are completely different types of gynecological diseases. If gynecological conditions are generally weak, it is a noticeable growth on the endometrium of the uterus. While uterine fibroids are benign tumors that grow in the uterine muscle layer. If it is an endometrial polyp, it is generally recommended to seek treatment as soon as possible because endometrial polyps have a higher likelihood of becoming cancerous. For uterine fibroids, special intervention is usually not required.
