Introduction:
I am particularly fond of news English. The reason is simple: I made my living from news English. From 1947 to 1958, I worked in the Translation Department of Xinhua News Agency for 12 years. These 12 years of work laid a solid foundation for my later academic research. I wrote books such as "Principles of Literary Translation," "An Outline of English-Chinese Comparative Grammar," and "Dynamic Studies on English Sentence Patterns," all based on the practical experience of that period. My experience demonstrates that learning news English is one of the most effective ways to master the English language.
News English vividly reflects the daily political, economic, and cultural lives of people in various countries, making it a comprehensive form of English. It includes political commentary, scientific and technical language, legal English, business and finance English, and much more. These are all things that young students urgently need to learn in today's era of reform and opening up. However, news English also has its own unique writing methods. Beginners often face great difficulties when reading news. Therefore, a good textbook is needed to guide young students in learning news English.
