Can a vasectomy be reversed?

Patient's question:

Can fallopian tubes be reconnected after tubal ligation? My periods are very regular, and due to family reasons, I want to have another child. However, the patient had a tubal ligation ten years ago. I would like to consult whether it is possible to reverse a tubal ligation after an abortion?

Doctor's answer:

If it is a small-scale tubal ligation reversal surgery, a laparoscopic examination can first be performed to test the feasibility of pressure. If the fallopian tubes are severely edematous and deformed with a length of less than 4 cm, or if the fimbriae have been removed, the fallopian tube microsuture anastomosis should be abandoned. During the tubal ligation reversal surgery, the physician first cuts both sides of the fallopian tubes at the ligation site, then aligns the inner tubes of both sides and stitches them with very fine sutures, making 4 to 8 stitches. Additionally, the location of the tubal ligation, the extent of edema and damage, the diameter of the fallopian tubes on both sides, the remaining length of the fallopian tubes, and the surgeon's ability to perform microsurgery are the key factors that determine the success or failure of the surgery.
