Features: Since the late 1970s, China has sent hundreds of thousands of government-funded students abroad for study. How effective has this policy been? What issues still remain? In the new century, facing rapidly changing domestic and international environments, what new mission does the government-funded study abroad policy undertake? To conduct a comprehensive evaluation and policy research on the effectiveness of government-funded study abroad since the reform and opening-up, relevant departments of the Ministry of Education initiated and the School of Education at Peking University and the Institute of Higher Education at Sun Yat-sen University jointly undertook the research project "Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Government-Funded Study Abroad since the Reform and Opening-Up."
