Romance of the Three Kingdoms Index Romance of the Three Kingdoms Index Romance of the Three Kingdoms Index

Author: Li Bo, Song Peixue, Li Xiaoguang
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-07-01
Features:
1. This book is compiled based on the 1982 annotated edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Zhonghua Book Company. The character forms and annotations in the index are the same as those in the 1965 edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Zhonghua Book Company. It can be used to retrieve entries from all annotated editions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms published by Zhonghua Book Company since 1959 (including the abridged edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms published in 1997). If there are minor differences, the 1982 edition is used as the standard.
2. This book consists of two parts: the index of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the index of Pei Songzhi's annotations to Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The version used for the Pei Songzhi annotations is the same as that of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
3. Both parts of the book are divided into single-character index, personal name index, place name index, cited works index, proper noun index (including astronomical terms, era names, names of deities, school names, etc.), supplementary index, and derivative text index.
4. Personal names, place names, cited works, proper nouns, supplementary entries, and derivative texts are based on the annotated edition of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Pei Songzhi's annotations.
5. The entire index is arranged in the order of stroke count of radicals in Ciyuan. A radical lookup table, a Pinyin lookup table, and a four-corner code lookup table are provided for reference.
6. The main body of the index consists of the searched word (or phrase) and its citations. The word (or phrase) in parentheses is the searched entry, followed by an Arabic numeral indicating the number of times it appears in Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Pei Songzhi's annotations. Subsequently, there is the citation, with an Arabic numeral after each citation indicating the page and line number in Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Pei Songzhi's annotations.
7. Index citations:
(1) Citations indicate the position of the searched word (or phrase) in Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Pei Songzhi's annotations.
(2) Citations take the content between two adjacent punctuation marks in the original text as a natural language unit. The comma (,) is not used as a marker for dividing language units.
(3) The cited sentences are also arranged in the order of stroke count of radicals in Ciyuan, with entries having fewer strokes in the radical placed first, and those with more strokes placed later. If the stroke count of the first character is the same, the second character is considered next, with fewer strokes placed first and more strokes placed later. This principle is applied similarly for subsequent characters.
8. The sorting method for personal names, place names, cited works, proper nouns, supplementary entries, and derivative texts is the same as that of the single-character index.
9. Homonymous variants are listed separately in the personal name index, and homonymous place names are listed separately in the place name index without manual summarization.
10. The Pinyin lookup table is only for use in retrieving entries in this book and does not determine pronunciation.
