Patient's question:
Recently, the doctor told me that I have adenomyosis of the uterus. I'm a bit worried it might be uterine fibroids, so I wanted to ask the doctor what the difference is between adenomyosis and uterine fibroids?Doctor's answer:
Endometriosis and uterine fibroids are two completely different diseases. Endometriosis primarily manifests as the entire uterus enlarging and experiencing progressively worsening dysmenorrhea. Uterine fibroids are benign tumors, mainly consisting of abnormal tissue protrusions such as subserosal, submucosal, and intramural lesions. They can be surgically removed, but there may be a risk of recurrence. If surgery is required for endometriosis, a total hysterectomy is necessary.
