Irregular menstruation, not sure if pregnant?

Patient's question:

I usually don't have very regular periods, and it's quite common for them to be delayed by about a week. Now I'm trying to conceive, and this time, my period hasn't come for one and a half months. With irregular periods, I wonder if I could be pregnant? How can I quickly find out if I'm really pregnant?

Doctor's answer:

Irregular menstrual cycles cannot predict pregnancy. In such cases, early pregnancy tests or pregnancy strips can be used for testing. It is best to use midstream, clean morning urine for testing, which is generally quite accurate. Blood tests to check hCG levels can also be performed for more accurate results and earlier detection of positive results. If the menstrual period is delayed by about half a month, an ultrasound examination can be conducted with urine retention to confirm the diagnosis.
