Features: Sand and dust weather refers to a general term for meteorological phenomena where winds up dust and sand from the ground into the air, causing the air to become turbid. Sand and dust weather is one of the main disasterous weather systems affecting northern China. In areas where sand and dust weather occurs, it causes significant losses to people's lives and property. In recent years, with the development of society and economy, as well as the implementation of the Western Development Strategy, the disasterous impacts of sand and dust weather on the national economy, ecological environment, and social activities have attracted increasing attention from all sectors of society and internationally. China has been placing greater emphasis on sand and dust weather, gradually increasing monitoring methods, and research on sand and dust weather has achieved certain results, continuously improving the forecasting level of sand and dust weather, making significant contributions to reducing losses caused by sand and dust weather and preventing such weather events. To meet the needs of scientific research on sand and dust weather and to provide meteorological technical personnel at various meteorological stations with more comprehensive information on sand and dust weather, enabling them to better grasp the patterns of sand and dust weather activity and improve forecasting accuracy, the National Meteorological Center compiled the "Sand and Dust Weather Yearbook" (2001). The compilation of the Yearbook was made possible through the strong cooperation and support of meteorological bureaus in various provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, as well as numerous meteorological stations, enabling the completion of the work. The content of the "Sand and Dust Weather Yearbook" includes descriptions of the general characteristics of sand and dust weather processes during the year and an analysis of the meteorological conditions that give rise to sand and dust weather. It also provides monthly spatiotemporal distributions of sand and dust weather throughout the year, along with relevant charts and graphs for major sand and dust weather events.
