Features: This book was written in response to the vast amount of information resources in the network environment, highlighting the need for effective organization. It aims to comprehensively reflect the various efforts made by humanity in organizing network information resources. The book is divided into eight chapters. Chapter 1 is "Introduction to Information Organization," which synthesizes the fundamental principles and methods of organizing information and knowledge, and outlines the basic strategies for organizing information in various fields. Chapter 2 is "Organization of Network Information Resources," which first defines the concept of network information resources, then explains their types, introduces their uniqueness, and finally discusses and evaluates the models of network information resource organization. Chapter 3 is "Online Information Resource Retrieval Systems and Tools," which introduces and evaluates Archie and Gopher, with a focus on exploring the World Wide Web retrieval systems and tools. Chapters 4 and 5 are "Classification and Thesaurus of Network Information Resources" and "Cataloging of Network Information Resources," respectively. The new concepts of both chapters originate from the ideas and methods of library information resource organization. In the network environment, they either evolve and continue to play a practical role or undergo innovation, giving rise to entirely new models in the network environment. Chapter 6 is "An Overview of Metadata," which argues that metadata is the most important foundation for organizing network information resources, and explains its basic concepts, types, characteristics, functions, and applications. The next chapter, "Dublin Core Element Set," explores Dublin Core, one of the most widely used metadata types, introducing its development history, elements and qualifiers, features, design principles, and applications. The last chapter is "The Role of Libraries in the Network Environment," which clarifies the impact of the network environment on libraries after explaining it, and lists the significant roles libraries can play in the network environment, firmly believing that libraries will continue to thrive.
