It gained international fame when the modern hero Huo Yuanjia used its techniques to repeatedly defeat Western martial artists. Mitzong Quan is an ancient martial arts style. Historical records indicate that it originated from the Shaolin Temple and was first created by Bodhidharma. Legend has it that Zhou Dong, a master of the Song Dynasty, practiced this art with great proficiency, and his disciples Lin Chong and Lu Junyi were also highly skilled practitioners of Mitzong Quan. The art was introduced to Qingxian, Cangzhou, during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, Sun Tong, a native of Tai'an, Shandong, had spent years practicing diligently at the Shaolin Temple in Songshan, achieving mastery in Mitzong Quan and earning the title of "Universal Hand." Sun Tong fled Northeast China due to a criminal charge and passed on the art of Mitzong Quan to the village of Datun, at the border of Qingxian and Jinghai, and to the village of Xiaonanhe, Jinghai County. Afterward, Mitzong Quan spread to Qingxian through two channels, and within Qingxian, it branched into two distinct schools that became widely practiced.
