Features: For many years, the major of physical education and sports rehabilitation had no specialized teaching materials despite its long-standing development. Due to the long-term lag in textbook construction, the National Advisory Committee on Physical Education Teaching in Higher Education Institutions, during the Changsha meeting in 1997, commissioned Capital University of Physical Education (formerly Beijing Normal University of Physical Education) as the coordinating unit for the compilation of teaching materials for the course "Physical Education and Sports Rehabilitation." In October 1997, professors and experts from nine institutions—Capital University of Physical Education, Yangzhou University, Zhejiang University, South China Normal University, Zhanjiang Normal University, Central China Normal University, Hebei Normal University, Hubei University, and Jianghan University—convened a textbook writing workshop at Central China Normal University. At the meeting, the detailed outline of the textbook was thoroughly discussed, and the writing responsibilities were clearly defined.
In July 1998, the newly revised "Catalog of Undergraduate Majors in Higher Education Institutions" was officially promulgated and implemented by the Ministry of Education. According to the principles of scientific, standardized, and broadened reform, the original "Physical Education" major of "Physical Education and Sports Rehabilitation" and "Physical Education and Biomedical Sciences" were merged and adjusted to form the "Sports and Human Biology" major. Under the new requirements, the writing team compared the professional training objectives, requirements, and competency specifications for the "Sports and Human Biology" major as stipulated in the new catalog. Guided by dialectical materialism, with a focus on linking theory with practice and strengthening basic skills, the preliminary draft of the textbook was adjusted and revised, with new content added.
In the "Physical Education and Sports Rehabilitation" textbook for the physical education major (undergraduate), sections such as "Physical Education and Health" (including nutritional health), "Medical Supervision," "Sports Injuries," "Massage," and "Medical Physical Education" are included. As a textbook for the "Sports and Human Biology" major, since the curriculum plan of the major independently offers separate courses such as "Nutritional Science," "Massage Science," and "Sports Rehabilitation," with each textbook having distinct responsibilities, this book does not repeat the content of the three aforementioned sections. However, in the selection of material for "Physical Education and Health," "Medical Supervision," and "Sports Injuries," the book strives to reflect the professional characteristics by broadening and deepening both the practical knowledge and theoretical elaboration, while also incorporating new achievements in the development of the discipline. Therefore, in addition to serving as a textbook for the "Sports and Human Biology" major, this book is also suitable for elective courses in other physical education-related majors. Additionally, it can serve as a reference for physical education teachers in higher and secondary schools, team physicians, coaches, and relevant medical personnel for professional advancement.
